Operations Management

Ensuring the performing vessel is on schedule to meet the agreed laycan, drawing up Charter Parties and Fixture notes making sure that all terms are fully covered and ensuring Charterer’s interests are fully covered.

Making sure Bills of Lading are released timeously after the cargo has been loaded/vessel sails and providing all relevant shipping documentation.

Thorough checking of laytime statements

Providing ETA & berthing notices for both load and discharging ports

Capricorn Shipping: Who We Are

The original company was established in the late 70’s to cater for the chartering requirements of traders who, like the Founder, had left a large trading company to ‘do their own thing’.  Several of the traders went on to build up their companies and were taken over by multinational groups such as Glencore/Macsteel and several other well-known International Groups.

Capricorn Shipping SA (Pty) Ltd therefore has a long history of shipping a wide variety of bulk commodities including Agriprods, Ferro Chrome, Chrome Ore, Iron Ore, Manganese Ore, Coal, Calcined Coke, Metallurgical Coke and Fluorspar.

Our activities are totally cargo related thus we have a neutral stance with regard to Ship Owners and Operators in that there is no conflict of interest. 

We primarily fix parcel sized cargoes ranging from 1,000mt up to 25,000mt but also fix in full and complete shipments, mainly iron ore and coal.

Capricorn ship on average between 700,000 to 1,200,000 metric tons of bulk cargoes per annum

Director

Tessa began her shipping career in Durban with Island View Shipping in 1996. Whilst studying with the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers of London, she did her practical training in the Port of Richards Bay and in 2003 she qualified as a Ship Operator / Vessel Manager with IVS.

After 16 years at Island View Shipping, Tess became a shipbroker for Capricorn Shipbroking in 2011 where she trained in cargo broking.  Tess then acquired Capricorn in 2021 and became the sole owner and Director of the Company.
